February was full of meaningful milestones, deepening independence, joyful celebrations, and beautiful moments of faith. As winter continues, our classrooms remain warm with purpose, connection, and steady growth.
❤️ Supporting Big Emotions with Big Love
This month, we spent intentional time helping children grow in an essential life skill: communicating frustration and regulating emotions.
At this age, children often express feelings physically before they have the words. We gently guide them by:
Offering hugs and time to reset
Finding quiet spaces to minimize overstimulation
Modeling deep breathing and calming movement
Giving language to replace hitting or loud outbursts
Practicing reconciliation when someone is hurt
Asking, “Can you tell me what that sound means?”
Learning to communicate during frustrating moments is hard work — and our students are rising to the challenge with courage and growth.
✝️ Rooted in the Life of Christ
Faith continued to anchor our days in February.
Highlights included:
Celebrating the Feast of the Presentation with a Scripture reading from Luke 2:22–40 and a wooden diorama presentation
Lighting a candle during Gospel readings to honor hearing God’s Word
Preparing for Easter using our purple prayer cloth, reminding us that we prepare through kindness, generosity, and prayer
Weekly Mass together as a school community
One particularly joyful moment came when a three-year-old pointed to the icon of the Resurrection and exclaimed:
“Look! Jesus not die no more!”
Children see the truth of the Gospel with such clarity and wonder.
🎨 Meaningful Classroom Work
February brought rich, hands-on learning across all areas of development.
Self-Portraits
Children began working on their spring self-portraits — a beloved project that:
Tracks growth in fine motor skills
Encourages observation of facial features
Will be shared during Parent-Guide Conferences
Practical Life & Early Academics
Throughout the month, students practiced:
Counting and matching quantities
Segmenting and blending CVC words
Sewing buttons
Tracing continent puzzle maps
Food preparation (peeling, chopping, spreading, cleaning up)
Paper tearing work (future collages!)
Exploring new instruments, including a kalimba
One favorite activity involved peeling bananas, spreading sunbutter, and washing dishes independently — practical life at its best.
💌 Valentine’s Day & Community Joy
Valentine’s Day was a beautiful expression of community:
Children decorated their own Valentine bags
Each child placed a card into every classmate’s bag
Parents joined us for a wonderful Parents’ Night gathering
A special espresso presentation (and hot cocoa!) delighted the class
We are so grateful for the generosity shown to our staff and for the joy that filled the week.
☀️ Outdoor Joy & Winter Break
February also brought:
Lunches outside on warm winter days
Extra recess time
Nature exploration
A restful and refreshing Winter Break
Outdoor play continues to be a vital part of our Montessori environment — even in winter.
🛡 Practicing Safety with Calm Confidence
This month, we also practiced our lockdown and fire drills.
We speak about these moments calmly and simply:
If something is unsafe, we gather quietly in a safe place.
If there were a fire, we go outside to be safe.
The children responded with order and maturity, showing how capable they are when guided with clarity and peace.
🧠 Montessori Reflection for Parents
This month’s Montessori reflection offered a powerful reminder:
“Montessori parenting becomes an unexpected process of reparenting. Learning to offer patience where there was pressure. Learning to trust process where there was urgency.”
Montessori education invites both children and adults to grow in patience, awareness, and trust.
🌸 Looking Ahead
As we move toward spring:
We continue preparing our hearts for Easter
The children remain deeply engaged in purposeful work
February reminded us that growth happens in many ways — through emotion, independence, faith, creativity, and community.
Thank you to our current families, grandparents, alumni families, and supporters for walking alongside us. Your prayers and encouragement sustain this beautiful work.
