Formed in Wonder, Order, and Love

To experience the world with wonder, awe, and order is a remarkable thing to behold. Observing our grandchildren engage in this “work” at Sophia Montessori Academy over the past seven years has impacted me in many ways. It has given me the opportunity to learn how to “parent” our grandchildren in a gentle and human way—one I had never experienced or seen modeled before. As a result, I am often stretched to swallow my own desire for control (in an attempt to produce certain behaviors) and instead allow that this immature little person may simply need to be loved through an uncomfortable moment. The adult practices self-control, and the child is loved into learning it over time.

Another marvel for me has been watching each of our grandchildren grow during their years at Sophia Montessori Academy, becoming more self-assured, independent, and creative little people. They enjoy their friends, but are also free to be themselves! Having observed our three-year-olds quietly moving about their classroom, choosing meaningful work and returning each material to its proper place, is truly amazing!

At times, I recall the subdued lighting and peaceful tranquility of a Montessori classroom filled with little people, and I am reminded that I, too, am a child in God’s eyes. I, too, need an environment of beauty and calm. This awareness challenges me to cultivate more silence in my home and car, allowing space for wonder, contemplation, and prayer, so that God’s graces in my own life may develop and come to rest. I am grateful for these reminders in such a loud and busy world.

If this testimony of childhood and formation speaks to your heart, we invite you to learn more about enrolling your child at Sophia Montessori Academy or to consider supporting our Tuition Assistance Fund. Your generosity helps ensure that more children and families can experience an education rooted in faith, wonder, dignity, and love.
